A Different Kind of Discussion Around Grief, Loss, Love & Memory

Grief is highly personal and often private, and lonely. Yet, it is fundamental to the shared experience of being human. It comes in waves sometimes, riding you like a rollercoaster, connecting the past to the present and future, yet grief can offer us an opportunity for deep reflection, transformation and connection to one another.

An exploration of grief through art

From These Things in an artistic exploration of grief, loss and memory contained within and around material objects. From a smoking pipe to a belt, necklace or saucepan, these keepsakes are imprinted with story, meaning and connection to our loved ones.

From these things’ artistic process will culminate in an exhibition showcasing local artists’ response to a single object provided by a member of the community (from within Woollahra LGA) who has lost a loved one. Both the object and artistic work will be shown alongside one another.

Contribute to the project

Expressions of interest for community participation are now open to bereaved individuals living within Woollahra LGA (Paddington, Edgecliff, Darling Point, Double Bay, Point Piper, Bellevue Hill, Rose Bay, Vaucluse, Watsons Bay).

The community outreach for From These Things is funded by Woollahra Municipal Council’s community and cultural grant scheme.

Whether it’s been a recent death or the loss of someone you care about long ago, we encourage individual discretion as only you can know and decide whether you’re ready to participate in an artistic dialogue about the death and loss of a loved one.
